Biomechanical & Gait Analysis

A biomechanical examination involves having the patient standing and lying down, examining their joint range of movement and assessing muscle strength and flexibility.

Video gait analysis allows us to examine the feet and legs with the patient walking or running on a treadmill. This helps us identify any functional foot faults and allows us to plan a treatment program.

Orthotics are shoe inserts designed to help re-align, support and improve the function of the foot. Orthotics fit comfortably in your shoes and may be prescribed for the treatment of foot or lower limb conditions.

At Local Podiatry we use the latest 3D scanning technology to capture a 3D laser image of your feet. The scanning process is clean, quick, accurate and effective. Your foot is scanned in its ideal position, a computer model is created and with your personalised orthotic prescription, allows us to ensure your orthotics are tailored specifically to suit your feet and presenting symptoms.

Footwear Advice

We provide advice on the type of footwear your chosen activity requires. Finding the correct pair of shoes for you will improve your foot health. At Local Podiatry we work closely with footwear specialty stores.

The benefits of orthotics and appropriate footwear include:

  • Relief from painful foot problems, especially for those who walk or stand for long hours at work, or in everyday activities.
  • Improve balance and posture.
  • Improve athletic performance.
  • Alter any abnormal foot function.
  • Alleviate knee, hip and back pain.
  • Help maintain the normal positioning of the bones in the foot, as well as the ankles and knees.
  • Can provide additional shock absorption.

Stretching advice

We provide advice on stretching exercises that will gently lengthen your tight muscles and tendons. An increase in flexibility may improve your performance in physical activities or decrease your risk of injuries by helping your joints move through their full range of motion. Stretching also increases blood flow to the muscle.

Through our examinations we can identify the areas of your tight muscles and tendons and will advise you with stretching exercises.

General Treatment

General Treatment is the removal of painful lesions such as ingrown toenails, corns and callouses. These lesions need to be removed to ensure comfortable walking. Our treatment adheres to strict aseptic technique and all instruments are autoclaved and handled in a sterile environment, in accordance with the National Infection Control Guidelines.
